it’s been a wild ride of teaching the Peace with Food retreats.
It’s been an honor, a privilege, but above all, a source of immense happiness and joy to see the women who’ve been through the program experience deep change and continue to be at peace with food!
But let me tell you a bit about how this started and how the Peace with Food retreats and the online Pure belonging course were born.
As many of you know, I have been helping people navigate healing food and movement for a long time. However, when it came to emotional eating, I felt challenged. Many of my clients who dealt with emotional eating (or not eating) suffered immensely. While I could support them in making kind and compassionate decisions after episodes of restricting, bingeing and self-rejection, I could never truly address the underlying issues – what was driving the behaviors.
Fast forward to the last season of education, where I spent the past 7 years learning as much as I can about nervous system regulation from two perspectives: the shock trauma Somatic Experiencing model and the Neuro Affective Relational Model of developmental trauma. Turns out, when I combined my understanding and practice of both and added another piece of neurobiological development, I had a working model in place that I could test with my students. And the results were nothing short of stunning – once we could start organizing the physiology that was driving the behaviors and the autonomic nervous system got the attention it needed, fast and powerful shifts occurred. My students were able to practice the skills, shift behaviors and relate to themselves and food in an entirely different way.
Of course, change takes practice, and this is why I also created an online video course to support learning after completion of a retreat, and started a support group. So far, so good, but there was one problem – I either taught these long 4 and 5 day formats in Bulgaria when I traveled, or the short one day format live in Southern California, where we live. There were many many people asking for coaching and a retreat online. So I made it happen.
Tell me more!
Peace with food is a very special small group workshop format for learning the effective tools that help you reframe your history with food, access the freedom available within the self-healing powers of the nervous system and really live with confidence, a sincere authentic connection to yourself, food and the wider circles of your belonging with your social group and the world.
I’ve been teaching this format live, but have had multiple requests to make it available online. So I’ve tailored the curriculum to be online friendly, and I will share it with a select small group of you Saturday, March 9, 2019!
If you are ready for a change and want clarity about where thoughts, behaviors, judgements and your history with food stand in the way of you having a free, happy and peaceful relationship with food, this one day will be a major catalyst for a new chapter in your life. If you want to know the truth about how food behaviors serve your physiology and want to find new ways to help your nervous system be balanced and regulated – be ready to be amazed at how incredible your body is!
Here is a little bit about the format, the schedule and some extra housekeeping details:
WHO IS THIS ONLINE RETREAT FOR?
If you feel like food is a daily focus of your life, you experience emotional eating episodes, you stop and start diets, swing between restricting and overindulging, are afraid of food, have conflicting feelings about what foods are good and nourishing and what foods don’t support your goals, or just plain want a life where food is just food and doesn’t bring excess baggage with it, this retreat is for you.
The outcome of this group work is to transform and reclaim a new relationship with food. It’s to uncover the deep patterns that drive feeding or not feeding behaviors (yes, you will find eating and restricting are two sides of the same pattern) and to give you back the freedom to enjoy life, your relationship with yourself and the opportunities to eat, have fun, grow and feel right in your body!
Ultimately, you will not only KNOW, but feel and live the truth that it’s not about the food. In fact, very little of our time during this one day transformational event is ever spent on talking and working with food, we dive deep into the unconscious patterns and survival physiology that guides the behaviors. We move through it personally, and as a group! We find freedom.
The format is a group session format, with lecture, discussion, self and group inquiry and small group and couples exercises. The exercises can range from talking, to drawing, writing, doing gentle movement, self touch or supportive touch, quiet reflection and meditation. All exercises are fun, playful and gentle and require no previous experience. I will be sending you details about simple materials you will need for the exercises after I receive your registration.
We will begin at 9 am promptly, as it is a day filled with transformative work.
We will have one 15 minute morning break, a 90 min lunch break and another 15 minute afternoon break.
We will finish at 5 pm.
The retreat will be entirely on Zoom, and I recommend you have access to a computer and a comfortable and quiet room.
The retreat will NOT be recorded, due to confidentiality and video or recording of any sort is not permitted. To support your learning I have developed a whole online course that includes all the integration exercises you will need after.
Nervous system regulation work requires a lot of good, clean energy. I will be emailing you a list of suggested foods and drinks that you can enjoy during the day and in the lunch break. We will enjoy lunch together, as a lunch and community discussion time, so please be prepared to use our lunch break to get to know others in the group and have fun.
